Webinar - Slip and Falls - Fact or Friction?
Wednesday, June 29, 2022, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PDT
Category: Webinars

How is it that on the same walkway one expert has opined that it is a slip hazard, and another expert has found that it is high traction and safe for human ambulation? The answer lies partly in a 2010 study published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences that found the various meters that measure friction of walkway surfaces, known as tribometers, yield different values for a given surface. This problematic condition remains the same today, and it is imperative that litigators understand some fundamentals of measuring a walkway surface to both qualify your expert and understand any deficiencies of both your own expert's approach as well as the opposition's.

This presentation will cover the current standards, what is coefficient of friction and how to precisely measure it, and three different tribometers will be demonstrated and discussed.
