Substantive Law

Insurance

ADC Substantive Law Committees develop policy options for the Board and recommend actions for its consideration and approval. Upon ADC Board review, the ADC Insurance Law and Litigation Committee (ILLC) implements and develops a plan of action, ranging from holding special events such as a coverage roundtable on recent developments in construction, environmental, coverage or audits to creating electronic mailing lists specifically for ILLC committee members, to producing articles regarding recent developments of interest to the membership.

The ILLC also, from time to time, may review proposed insurance legislation, monitor existing case law developments and provide considerable help to our members by recommending various topics for further study -- either for inclusion in the quarterly Defense Comment or for discussion at an ADC-sponsored seminar. Other avenues of focus will include: providing speakers for seminars and the Annual Meeting, developing an electronic mailing list or chat room, creating an electronic newsletter, meeting every 3-4 months, hosting committee meetings, and identifying vendors who might be of benefit to ILLC members.

The ADC Insurance Law & Litigation Committee is part of what is likely to become the mission of the organization in the next century. ILLC is a focused, specialized substantive law committee that examines defense litigation and insurance with a group of people devoted to the enhancement and developed of each member's personal practice. The evolution of the ILLC is a natural outgrowth of the insurance industry, where the term "insurance defense" really is just too narrow to define all that we do.

As practice areas change and become more specialized and defense counsel try to concentrate on one or two areas of expertise, the ILLC will seek to assist ADC members in their professional development while helping the veteran attorney stay on the cutting edge of his or her practice. For those who wish to switch emphasis, change the focus of their caseloads, enlarge their practice or diversify their client base, the ILLC will become an invaluable resource.

So... definitely don't be shy! Join the ILLC Committee (or any of ADC's other Substantive Law Committees) and help us all promote our No. 1 goal: To establish a potent network of ready resources and colleagues to examine, study and discuss key concerns and issues within our practice areas. It will be all about providing the right information to our ILLC committee members and members at-large in the right way (and quickly).
