Substantive Law Construction Litigation
Construction litigation involves continual developments in the law as well as
the science of building. In the last ten years, the law governing construction
litigation has changed dramatically. From the introduction of the first Calderon
bill, to the California Supreme Court’s Aas opinion to the present day world of
SB 800, Civil Code section 1375, and AB 758, construction litigation practice is
a dynamic area of the law.
The ADC Construction Litigation Subcommittee’s goals are twofold:
1. To promote the understanding of the science of residential and
commercial construction methods and materials.
2. To educate members as to changes and developments in the law
surrounding construction litigation.
To fulfill its goals, the ADC Construction Litigation Subcommittee holds
seminars throughout the year. Some seminars provide “hands on” exposure to
construction practices, while others focus on legal issues, analysis, and
strategy in a lecture and discussion format.
The Construction Litigation Subcommittee also presents an invaluable resource:
its members. The combined experience of the Construction Litigation Subcommittee
members is an impressive asset. The subcommittee facilitates communication and
networking among its members through e-mail discussion groups, participation in
the ADC website’s forum on construction litigation, contributions to the ADC
Comment magazine, and meetings to discuss our practice area.
If you would like to be a part of the discussion, contribute to a news article
or assist with a seminar, please contact the Construction Litigation
